Our History

Barwell Bloomers was formed in 2017 following a suggestion from our first Chairman the late Mr. David Peace. He wanted Barwell, like many of our neighbouring villages, to have flower displays making our village more attractive for our residents and visitors.

A group was form by local like-minded residents, a Constitution was produced, along with a name and logo. Work started on the design of the planters and funding sought. Our first planter was built from recycled scaffolding boards and placed in front of our Church. It was felt that to make an impact large planters would be needed for the village centre and an octagonal designed was developed. Three octagon planters were built using recycle boards, two being placed in the village centre and one placed outside Barwell’s George ward Centre. Large oblong planters were built and placed around the village centre and on the High Street.

Funds were raised from local businesses and residents who support was invaluable to pay for the planters, water bowser, flowers and compost.

We have now added 50 hanging baskets to our High Street thanks to the house owners allowing the hanging baskets to be fitted to their properties.
